Supporting the Work Behind Florida’s Living Coast
The Mangrove was inspired by a tree that quietly shapes life along Florida’s coast. It felt only right that part of what it earns should return to the work of protecting it. Mocamar is partnering with the Marine Resources Council, a Florida nonprofit that has worked to protect and restore the Indian River Lagoon since 1983. Its work brings together science, education, public involvement and hands-on restoration across one of Florida’s most important coastal ecosystems.
At the heart of this work is the organization’s state-licensed mangrove nursery, where young mangroves are grown and cared for before they can become part of shoreline restoration projects. These plants help rebuild living shorelines that provide habitat, reduce erosion and strengthen the places where land and water meet. The nursery now needs a new greenhouse that will create more protected space for this work. To help make it possible, we donate 3% of the gross revenue from every Mangrove lamp sold to the Marine Resources Council. This partnership connects the object we make with the landscape that gave it its name. Each Mangrove chosen for a home helps another mangrove begin its life along Florida’s coast.
You can learn more about the Marine Resources Council and its work on the organization’s website. There, you can also donate directly or explore opportunities to support its work as a volunteer, from caring for young mangroves to taking part in restoration, water monitoring and community cleanup projects.
We believe that a commitment like this should remain visible after a purchase has been made. We will therefore document our contributions transparently and share how much has been donated through the sales of The Mangrove, so that everyone who chooses one can see what their purchase has helped support.
